Reed Mining Events and Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce & Industry Announce New Strategic Partnership for WA Mining Industry Exhibitions

13 Nov 2013

Reed Mining Events and Kalgoorlie Boulder Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KBCCI) today announced a new approach to their strategic event partnership, forged in 2006 in order to deliver business opportunities to mining industry suppliers and their customers and prospects in Western Australia’s Eastern Goldfields region.
Under the new partnership, the iconic Goldfields Mining Expo (GME), which first took place in Kalgoorlie in 1983, will not be staged in 2014 but will re-emerge in a new format in May 2015 and every second year thereafter.  Plans for the redesigned event, which will be organised by KBCCI and supported by Reed Mining Events, are being put together in consultation with key stakeholders and will be announced in May 2014.  KBCCI state that the new format will maintain the essential components of networking, technical education and ‘face to face’ engagement between suppliers and their customers but will also minimise the level of required investment for all participants.
In turn, KBCCI will put their full support behind Reed Mining Events’ fast-growing exhibition Mining & Engineering Western Australia (M&E WA), which will be held for the second time at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre from 6 – 8 May 2014.  Extensive research undertaken by an independent company on behalf of Reed and KBCCI has indicated that the majority of exhibitors and ‘top tier’ visitors to the last edition of GME intend to take part in M&E WA 2014 and that they support this transition from a regional event in Kalgoorlie to a major Perth-based mining industry exhibition.
M&E WA in Perth was launched successfully by Reed Mining Events in 2011, when it attracted 125 exhibitors, whose stands were visited by over 2500 mining industry professionals over the three days.  Satisfaction levels were high - 73% of both exhibitors and visitors were ‘very satisfied’ or ‘satisfied’ – and 94% of exhibitors and 66% of visitors stated their intention to participate in the next edition.
The 2014 edition of M&E WA will be strengthened through Reed Mining Events’ partnership with KBCCI, who will be marketing the event actively and will lead a strong onsite presence at the Perth event from senior representatives of the Eastern Goldfields mining industry.
Paul Baker, Director of Reed Mining Events, believes that the new partnership with KBCCI will ensure the best business outcomes for mining industry suppliers and their customers in Kalgoorlie and the surrounding region.  Baker says that “Perth’s status as the State’s FIFO hub and home to many mining industry decision-makers, plus the city’s established infrastructure in terms of exhibition venue, hotels and transport make it the ideal location for M&E WA as Western Australia’s leading mining industry exhibition.  Our research suggests that significant numbers of mining industry professionals will make the short trip from Kalgoorlie to join their colleagues from other key regions of WA’s mining sector in visiting M&E WA 2014.  We are delighted to be maintaining our highly valued partnership with KBCCI and feel certain that KBCCI’s new version of GME in Kalgoorlie in the alternate year to M&E WA will meet the needs of both buyers and suppliers in delivering ROI and face to face business engagement at a local level.”
Hugh Gallagher, CEO of KBCCI, adds that “change is a constant in all aspects of life and the mining industry is certainly no exception.  Having conducted extensive research to understand the needs of our customers, we are confident that the combination of Reed’s M&E WA in the even year and our own revised format for GME in the odd year will be a good solution for all stakeholders.  Importantly, the strong partnership KBCCI has developed over the past eight years with Reed Mining Events will continue for the benefit of the business community in the Eastern Goldfields and Western Australia’s mining industry as a whole.”
Reed Mining Events report that space sales for M&E WA 2014 are already well under way.  Early indications are that demand for the available space is expected to be stronger than supply - which means exhibitors should move early to secure their preferred stand option.
“I would encourage companies considering participation at M&E WA 2014 to secure their space as soon as possible. We can promise you that it will be a vibrant and exciting event,” Baker concluded.
