Major suppliers line up for Kalgoorlie’s GME

With six months still to go before Kalgoorlie’s Goldfields Mining Expo, more than 200 exhibitors – including some of Australia’s major mining equipment suppliers – have signed up for the exhibition, which will be held at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club from October 28-30, 2008.

Leading suppliers who have committed to GME, which has now moved to being held every two years, include Hitachi Construction and Mining Equipment, Metso Minerals, Sandvik Mining and Construction, Minepower, Bradken Mining and CJD.

GME, which has been an important fixture on the Australian mining calendar for over 20 years, is jointly owned and managed by Reed Exhibitions and the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce.

Since 2006, when Reed Exhibitions – Australia’s largest mining events organiser – took on promotion and management of GME, it has moved to a biennial cycle.
“The move to a biennial exhibition for GME has proved to be an outstanding success,” said Soren Norgaard, Reed Exhibitions’ exhibition manager, mining and construction events.

“Already we have had commitments from substantially more exhibitors than for our 2006 show, reflecting not only the very healthy state of the industry in Western Australia’s Eastern Goldfields region, but also the fact that a two-year show cycle is what the industry has wanted.

“By the time GME 2008 opens, we anticipate having an exhibition that is substantially larger than the 2006 event, providing visitors with an opportunity to see the latest mining equipment and services available,” he said.

“We are also receiving assistance for GME from the highest levels of government, with recent letters of support from WA Premier Alan Carpenter, and WA Energy, Resources, Industry and Enterprise Minister Francis Logan.

“That is an indication of how GME is seen as an important and integral part of WA’s mining and energy sector by the WA government,” said Norgaard.
Hugh Gallagher, CEO of the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that the forthcoming show was generating a lot of interest throughout the Goldfields region, as well as further afield.

“There is plenty of pent-up demand for mining equipment and services, and with no major show in the region since 2006, miners are looking forward to seeing the latest developments,” he said.

“In addition, GME is now recognised as an unparalleled opportunity for miners, suppliers, contractors and other service providers to network, not only catching up with colleagues and contacts, but also meeting new people who’ve come into the industry.

We will be making sure our large regional network of mining companies, along with the service and supply sector, will be well informed on what to expect at GME 2008.
“And with Western Australia’s Chamber of Minerals & Energy a core part of our network hence we will be working with them to value-add where ever we can,” said Gallagher.

Key features of GME 2008 will include:
Independently audited visitors, a unique feature of all Reed Exhibitions events, which ensures that exhibitors can be assured that visitor numbers and demographics are honestly and accurately recorded.

Meet the Buyer program, a unique Reed offering which introduces key buyers to suppliers of products of direct relevance.
GME on-line, with full information about the show, including directory listings for exhibitors with cross referencing, allowing visitors to search by product category and to register electronically.

Match Maker, another unique Reed initiative where visitor product interests are matched to exhibitors' products and services. A detailed report is sent to registered visitors three weeks before GME, enabling them to plan their visit and giving them more reason to attend.

GME is part of Reed Exhibitions’ structured calendar of Australian mining exhibitions, held over a four-year cycle. In addition to GME in October, in July 2008 it will present the Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition in Mackay, then in September 2009, the NSW Mining & Energy Exhibition (M&E) will be held in NSW’s Hunter Valley. QME and GME will again be held in 2010, with Reed’s major four-yearly mining show AIMEX back in Sydney in September 2011.
